Tania Tachkova


Steinway Artist Tania Tachkova has been praised by critics for performances that are “white-hot” and “very impressive”. She has appeared in concert as a recitalist and in chamber concerts throughout the United States, Paris (France), Dublin (Ireland), Sydney (Australia), and Auckland and Christchurch (New Zealand) and at venues such as Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall, Steinway Hall New York, Wiener Saal at Mozarteum Salzburg, The Piano (Christchurch), Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Henri Selmer Hall in Paris, Grand Bulgaria Hall and the National Palace of Culture in Bulgaria, to name a few.

Her solo engagements include the Orchestra of the State Academy of Music in Bulgaria, Shoumen Philharmonic, Razgrad Philharmonic, and the Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra. Festival appearances include Aspen Music Festival, Sarasota Music Festival, and New Music on the Bayou Summer Festival, where her duo (duo per se, with clarinetist Scot Humes), has been an ensemble in residence since 2018. Tachkova's performances have been broadcast on radio and television, including WQXR, WITF, WPRB, and Bulgarian National Television.

Her recordings include critically acclaimed chamber music CDs released by MSR and Centaur Records and extensive solo and four-hand repertoire for Steinway Spirio. Dr. Tachkova collaborated with artists such as cellist Colin Carr, violinists Noah Bendix-Balgley (Principal Concertmaster of Berlin Philharmonic) and Martin Chalifour (Principal Concertmaster of Los Angeles Philharmonic), Locrean Chamber Players, Stony Brook Contemporary Chamber Players, and Yarn/Wire, to name a few. Tachkova’s students consistently earn top accolades, winning various international and national competitions, performing at some of the best known venues for classical music such as Carnegie Hall’s Zankel and Weill Halls, Steinway Hall NYC, and the Kennedy Center.

In addition, she has presented numerous master classes at various universities in the United States as well as the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in Australia, and has adjudicated many international and national competitions in the United States and in New Zealand. Additionally, duo per se is anticipating the upcoming release of two new CDs at the end of 2025: one comprised of works composed by women, and the other of music by underrepresented composers.

Tachkova holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in piano performance from Stony Brook University and is on the faculty of MannesPrep, the 92Y School of Music, and The Spence School in New York City, where she resides with her husband and two children.
